A beginning of the year full of great satisfactions!

We have just returned from the Christmas holidays and we found some wonderful surprises under the tree.

Calvarino 2020

Calvarino 2020 has been nominated by Monty Waldin among the Best wines of the year for Decanter with 93 points. Jeremy Button had already tasted the freshly released Calvarino, describing it this way “The latest vintage of Pieropan's Calvarino is floral and with a slight hint of honey, with notes of summer meadow and straw, and hints of stone and ash. Intense and mineral, its deliciously juicy peach character ends clean and taut. Drink now or leave it for several years to fill up and gain harmony and complexity.” A great confirmation for this wine, the first Italian white cru, which since 50 years represents the style of the Pieropan winery, made of freshness and elegance.

Calvarino 5

To celebrate the inauguration of the winery dedicated to Leonildo Pieropan, the first wine of the "I vini dell'anima" project has been launched on the market. Calvarino 5 made its debut in April 2022 and achieved great success in Italy, but also in the UK and Japan. Tom Hyland came to visit us this summer and named it on Forbes.com White Wine of the Year, describing it as “From one of Soave's greatest producers, an unforgettable wine that is a blend of five vintages - 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 from their single Calvarino vineyard in the Soave Classico area. Enormous complexity, typicity and harmony, this is an extraordinary wine that displays surprising freshness and will be drinkable for at least another five to seven years. A singular statement on the extraordinary quality of Soave Classico at its best.”

La Rocca 2020

La Rocca received numerous awards during 2022, from 3 biccheri Gambero Rosso to 92 Wine Spectator points. The end of the year brought from China an excellent score (93 points) given by Ian D'Agata in his Terroir Sense and the Great Italian Wines of 2022. Again Tom Hyland described La Rocca thus: "La Rocca is a single vineyard Soave Classico that is aged in large wooden barrels. Each vintage is impressive in terms of fruit depth and complexity, with this 2020 out of the charts. Quite powerful, it has a complex set of aromas with notes of orange peel and anise, with a lively acidity and a long finish. Reminding me very much of a top notch Moselle Riesling, this is a great Soave that will keep easily in the cellar for 10-12 years."
